Make no mistake. Those nominations were ALWAYS going to get a vote.

A side note on Ted Cruz and Mike Lee insisting that Senators go on record Saturday night as to whether they believe Obama’s Executive Order on amnesty is constitutional was some chatter and questions about a bunch of nominations that were voted on while Reid was trying to stall and not take up the Cruz Constitutional Point of Order.

Those who do not support Cruz have posited that if only Ted Cruz hadn’t done what he did, all these nominations that were stalled would not have had a vote, and thus Ted Cruz is responsible for some confirmations.

Here’s the truth. According to Adam Jentleson who is the Communications Director for Harry Reid:

“Sen. McConnell has known for weeks if not months that Sen. Reid planned to move forward on these noms. Maybe he failed to inform his caucus.”

Jentleson tweeted that out contemporaneously with the vote that was happening Saturday in response to the meme that Cruz’s actions had allowed those nomination votes. Not so he said. They were ALWAYS going to happen. Anyone who said otherwise was either ill-informed … OR … was just angry that Ted Cruz kept Senators from going home for the weekend so they were looking to cast blame.

On the bright side, the Senate GOP found a hill to die on….sticking it to Ted Cruz because he made them angry.

Politico laid this false narrative to rest also, with their reporting:

Reid and McConnell believed they had a deal to delay consideration of the omnibus spending package until Monday and pass a stop-gap funding measure that would keep the government afloat through Wednesday. Over McConnell’s objections, Reid planned to begin processing the president’s stalled nominations next week, including nine federal district judicial nominees and several controversial executive branch nominees like Vivek Murthy to be the new surgeon general, White House adviser Tony Blinken to be the deputy secretary of State and Sarah Saldana to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After McConnell left the chamber Friday night with no plans to return until Monday, Reid tried to lock down an agreement to schedule the spending vote for Monday evening. But Lee, unexpectedly, objected, demanding a stand-alone vote on defunding the president’s immigration order to defer deportations for millions of undocumented immigrants. Reid said: “I am unable to do that.”

After Lee objected, Reid saw an opening. He brought the Senate back into session Saturday to begin processing nominations through a series of procedural votes. Senior Republicans were furious. By skipping a weekend session, McConnell had hoped that Reid would relent on nominations next week as senators grew anxious about returning home for the holidays. But the Lee-Cruz strategy essentially gave Democrats an opening to begin the process Saturday.

Matthew Boyle at Breitbart also reporting:

Flake’s claim that some of these nominees were not going to move forward before Reid kept the Senate in town as a result of Cruz’s and Lee’s efforts to have a Senate vote on stopping Obama’s executive amnesty is questionable. Sources across Capitol Hill told Breitbart News that Reid had been planning on moving these nominees through before Christmas—and before he loses control as Senate Majority Leader—anyway, this week.

“Reid would have filed cloture on all of these nominees on Monday night after passage of the CRomnibus,” one senior Senate GOP aide told Breitbart News. “They would have been confirmed on Wednesday or Thursday.”

Those nominations were ALWAYS going to get a vote; the Cruz Constitutional Point of Order merely moved the vote up a day or so.

For the angry and grumpy among you, who support Senators like Lindsey Graham and John McCain who complained about Cruz’s Constitutional Challenge and voted that YES INDEED Obama’s amnesty Executive Order was Constitutional — Jon Gabriel @exjon tweeted: I fear that voters will punish Cruz’s latest stunt just as badly as they did his shutdown. #MidtermGOPSweep
